After achieving success in the performance bike sector of India, Yamaha Motors India is now gearing up to enter into hitherto uncharted territory, that of scooters. According to reports in a pink daily, the company is currently busy conducting a study on the feasibility of scooters and their relative relevance to the Indian market and the findings of the report will determine the type of scooters from the Japanese manufacturer.
Pankaj Dubey, National Business Head of Yamaha India Motors was quoted saying that Yamaha is studying the market to enter the scooter segment, but it has not finalised the product line yet. However, one thing is sure that the Japanese firm will launch scooters in India. Dubey further added that the firm is evaluating whether a model from its existing global scooter portfolio will be launched here or a completely new product will be developed for the Indian market.
It is also unclear for now whether the company would focus only on premium scooters or develop products for the mass market. But going by the company’s recent track record, we are eagerly expecting a completely new breed of performance scooters unlike anything we have ever seen before. Watch this space till then.
