The TVS Jive is my first long-termer after joining Bike India. Prior to this, I was riding a conventional 100cc commuter bike through Pune's chaotic city traffic, and so when given the keys to this clutchless bike, I grabbed it.
Initially it felt a bit weird being perched atop a bike and not having a clutch to deal with. On multiple occasions, I found myself reaching for the clutch only to realise it wasn't there and all I had to do was shift to the appropriate gear. Once I had it figured out, it has been smooth sailing all the way. The Jive picks up beautifully from almost any revs, in any gear and never complains. The acceleration is adequate for my riding style, and she is light and extremely easy to wiggle through gaps in traffic. I haven't had the chance to test her fuel efficiency figures yet, but I suspect it might be a little less than my previous bike. A fair trade, considering the Jive's ease of use and ease of riding. The padding material on the seat is a bit on the softer side, which might be a problem for longer rides, but for city use, it is really great. Coupled with the supple suspension, the Jive makes for the perfect commuter bike. She's due for her third service now, where I plan to change her engine oil, clean the filters and give her a thorough TLC. A long ride should hopefully give me something more substantial to report next time, including her fuel efficiency figures.
